Achilles Adamantiades
May his memory be eternal.

Our brother Achilles Adamantiades fell asleep in the Lord on March 7th, 2023 in the 89th year of his earthly life. Born in Volos, Greece to Grammenos and Penelope, he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study at MIT, where he received a PhD in nuclear physics and met his wife, Masha. He had a long career with the World Bank working on energy projects across the globe, was a professor at Stanford University and GW University, and authored many books, papers, and articles on energy, theology, culture, and philosophy.

He joined St. George in its earliest years and was a chantor, Sunday School Director, and Parish Council Member. Achilles was also a member of the Order of St. Andrew as Archon Prostatis ton Grammaton, where he served as Executive Secretary of the Archdiocesan Advisory Committee on Science and Technology.

He is survived by his loving wife, Masha, children, Misha Adamantiades (Sophia) and Penelope Papageorgiou (Aristotle), eight grandchildren (Agape, Ioanni, Achillea, Masha, Maximus, Marilena, Achillea, and Nicoletta) and two great-grandchildren (Efraim and Filoumenos).

A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 14th from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church (7701 Bradley Blvd, Bethesda, MD 20817). The Funeral Service will follow at 10:30 AM, with internment at Rock Creek Cemetery (1719 Allison St NW, Washington, DC 20011).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
